The Mission Enabling Products Business Unit is seeking an Operating Unit Director ("OUD", Director of Programs) for the Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS) Operating Unit. This position is located in Lanham, MD.

Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS), located in Lanham Maryland, specializes in high performance, high reliability avionics and Space Flight subsystems for Aerospace, Defense, Space, Nuclear Defense and Instrumentation applications. ATS' space products have supported more than 28 space missions over a period of 25 years. These missions stretch back to Apollo and the beginning of the US Space Program and include a large diversity of civil and military programs, including notable programs like SBIRS, X-37B, Hubble, Orbital Express, Space Station, Shuttle, Mars Lander, Astronaut EMU Suits and 20 other NASA missions including four of their early small satellites. ATS was one of the first organizations in Northrop Grumman to foresee the potential of evolving Small Satellite technologies for application within the military, civil and commercial space markets.

Job Responsibilities

  • Accountable for key-line financials (Orders, Sales, EBIT and Cash). Lead the programmatic and financials, risk and opportunities (R&O's), Operations Reviews, delegations, proposal reviews and internal work order processes for the ATS business. Develop program cost control plan and improve program risk and opportunity register process.

  • Develop the ATS long-range strategic plan (LRSP). Define rationale for growth opportunities and conduct business case analysis. Support new business activities targeting change management, increasing scope and content on existing programs, and identifying new opportunities with existing and new customers.

  • Maintain current and actionable market-customer-pursuit intelligence that supports the assigned product and business unit objectives.

  • Serve as a tiered escalation level for programmatic, customer, and operational issues across the OU.

  • Provide direct leadership to program managers and proactively strengthen the operating unit through the performance management process, including individual and group goal setting, coaching and development. Manage operating unit priorities aligned with the strategy deployment process (SDP) and prioritize resource needs.

  • Partner with functional leadership to deploy qualified resources and improve processes, tools and training to meet customer demands. Evaluate and implement program and product best practices. Implement programs daily management standards, business systems and tools, and align improvement focus across operating unit.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering or Business with a m inimum of 10 years of experience in Program Management and/or Engineering Management; Master's in Engineering or Business with 8 years of exp; or PhD in Engineering related field with 5 years of exp

  • Requires a proven track record of developing product strategy and developing customer relationships, pursuit capture, and shaping requirements.

  • Requires the passion and relentless drive to achieve results, exceptional leadership skills, effective and timely decision making, negotiation skills, and problem-solving skills.

  • Requires knowledge and experience with implementation and execution of process standards and training focused on programs, business development, and risk management identification and mitigation.

  • Excellent communication skills - written and presentation development and delivery skills

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret and/or Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or M.S in Engineering preferred

  • 15+ years of Engineering and Program Management exp

  • Product-area technical experience is preferred.

Salary Range: $204,100 - $306,100

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
