Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Launch and Missile Defense Systems - Huntsville, AL has a current opening for a Principal/Sr. Principal Software Engineer

Principal-Sr. Principal Software Developer (Probabilistic Risk Assessment Database)

This position is contingent upon program funding. Multiple positions may be available.

Physical Location: Huntsville, AL

Overview of position:

In this role, you will be expected to be the primary software resource for updates and improvements to the probabilistic risk assessment database in support of the Operations and Sustainment portion of the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense program.

In this position, you will be responsible for developing and implementing software updates to best meet changing customer needs.

A strong understanding of mathematics and advanced technical problem solving skills will be necessary for this position.

You will be expected to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results with limited oversight and direction.

In this position you will be expected to:

• Support advanced portions of the lifecycle of software development to include requirements definition, integration, and deployment

• Apply "systems thinking" to ensure developed products are scalable, maintainable, and meet end-user needs

• Communicate openly and effectively with teammates and customer representatives

• Experience developing software in object-oriented programming languages such as C, C++, or C#.

• Exhibit strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and customer personnel

Experience analyzing complex problems and developing solutions based on limited direction and definition


This is a multi level requisition:

Minimum requirements for Principal Engineer:

  • Active secret security clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering or related field

  • 5 years of related experience; 3 with relevant Master's degree; 0 with PhD.

  • Experience developing C-based software

Minimum requirements for Sr. Principal Engineer:

  • Active secret security clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering or related field

  • 9 years of relevant experience; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.

  • Experience developing C-based software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong background in statistics or mathematics

  • Firm understanding of Agile development practices

  • Experience with Missile Defense Systems

  • Firm understanding of database development and networking basics
