Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Manager 1. This position will be located at Hill AFB, UT and will support the Ground Subsystems Support Contract (GSSC) program.

What you'll get to do:

  • People leadership for a mechanical engineering organization, to include performance management, career development, staffing, and merit planning

  • Provide project and technical oversight for activities performed by the group

  • Provide ownership of and direction to the processes used by the group

  • Provide proposal inputs and review proposal content for both internal and external customers

  • Support department initiatives, recruiting, technology roadmap creation, cross-campus/sector involvement, and NCTA project leadership

  • Lead a diverse team of engineers performing project development, technical requirements review, system support, planning and sustainment for a diverse set of products in the missile, air and space domains.

  • Responsible for the strategic implementation of skills and labor mix; employee development; mentoring; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.

  • Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on significant technical matters requiring coordination between organizations to ensure successful task completion and customer satisfaction.

  • Responsibilities also include horizontal integration of best practices across the organization; maintaining cognizance over technical activities; and ensuring execution of project statement of work and baselines.

This position may have a 9/80 work schedule available. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Qualifications:

You'll bring these qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience supporting modernization, maintenance, design and analysis of mechanical systems

  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance

These qualifications would be nice to have:

  • Active Secret Security Clearance or higher

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering

  • 3+ years of ICBM experience

  • 5+ years' hands-on experience supporting modernization of ICBM infrastructure including aerospace vehicle ground systems/subsystem and ground support equipment design and analysis

  • 2+ years of experience providing technical leadership of an engineering team

  • Thorough knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ASME and MIL-STDs)
