Job Summary

Serve as a recognized professional authority in an engineering discipline or specialty area. Conduct preliminary and advanced design studies and prepare and present major portions of engineering proposals. Conceive and develop solutions to complex analytical, design, and test problems/failures that program(s) experience. Contribute to system's philosophy and design objectives. Analyze and resolve important failures in test and service, often without recourse to intense theoretical studies and test programs. Assure continuity of design features from advanced design throughout a program. Write very complex specifications and engineering reports as a result of advance studies and special engineering investigations. Develop aspects of new design criteria for general application within their respective business group and/or the corporation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Job Knowledge/Technical Skills - Establish strategy to ensure company electrical engineering standards are comprehensive, complete, and updated with applicable lessons learned.

Technical expert in numerous electrical engineering disciplines.

Reviews electrical engineering materials for presentation to Customer Requirements and Design Reviews.

  • Problem Solving/Innovation - Works on unusually complex technical problems by developing ingenious solutions.

Researches and develops advanced applications to be used in new products and/or securing new business opportunities.

  • Liaison - Sets an example for others to follow and significantly increases the effectiveness of the team.

Provides guidance for, and anticipates internal and external customer needs and finds innovative ways to provide for those needs.

Ensures escalation of issues, when required, is conducted in a disciplined manner.

Effective coach and mentor for subordinate levels.

Ensures technical positions are correct and adequately supported, provides support for subordinate engineers who find themselves standing alone.

  • Requirements Derivation/ Test Development - Define and determine engineering tasks required for major project planning and execution.

Analyze system requirements and develop detailed planning, conceptual designs.

Division/Group recognized leader in the testing and/or evaluation/validation of system and subsystem analytical models or actual system implementation.

  • Risk and Uncertainty Quantification - Ensure principles of risk analysis and uncertainty quantification are understood by the engineering staff and being effectively implemented .

  • Analysis and Design - Considered a subject matter expert in one or more aspects of electrical engineering.

Solves a variety of unbounded technical problems with creativity and resourcefulness.

Division or Group recognized leader in the use of a broad category of tools, processes, or specifications to create system design or analytical models

  • Peer Review/Oversight - Defines and maintains department peer review process.

Ensures peer review process is robustly implemented.

  • Business Development - Leading contributor to major system technical proposal.

Support creation of a standard approach for developing new opportunities in support of business development strategy either from existing accounts or by proactively targeting new potential accounts.

  • Leader or Fellow in national or international engineering association.

Education and Experience

Requires BS in Engineering & 20 years or Masters in Engineering & 15 years or PhD in Engineering & 10 years.
