Systems Administrator supporting Training and Exercises team: provides support as Training System Integrator (TSI) to training, exercises, and wargames using the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Fire Control & Communications (GFC/C) systems primarily on the GMD System Trainer (GST) at the Readiness & Control (R&C) facility at Fort Greely, Alaska.
Candidate will apply systems engineering technical principles, theories and concepts to plan, integrate, operate and maintain the GFC/C system for daily warfighter training, exercises, and war-games at the R&C. The candidate will determine and develop solutions of increasing scope and complexity for integration and system operation problems (e.g. adapt hardware, network, and software configurations to meet specific event requirements). These integration and execution problem solutions are required to be imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives and program procedures.
Position requires frequent interface with internal and external contractor and military personnel during phases of daily training, integration, system modifications / upgrades, exercises and wargames to develop and determine system configuration solutions to meet the customer requirements. The candidate will provide technical support on GST system configurations to integrate new hardware and/or software installations. Post installation, the candidate will assist to develop and implement local test and checkout procedures to verify new systems are ready for integration. Using GFC/C, network and UNIX/LINUX skills, the candidate will conduct system integration activities. This includes: coordination with external groups for problem solving, configuring GFC systems using both UNIX/LINUX command line and delivered tools, execution of the GST system including verification of training configuration to ensure all systems initiated properly, monitoring integration activities (during installation and execution), performing detailed problem analyses and capturing necessary data for root cause determination of any GFC, network, and other simulation issues, identifying/reporting anomalies using functional analysis, and system clean-up following completion of integration and/or execution activities. The candidate will thoroughly investigate problems to assist in determining root cause and develop courses of corrective action along with associated risks. Candidate will represent the organization in communicating solutions to difficult technical issues to the customer.
The candidate will operate the GFC/C in the training facilities at the R&C. This entails coordinating with contractor personnel to schedule training systems, deconflict them with other activities, verification of training configuration, operation of both GFC/C and the simulation system(s) and/or coordinate with external agencies that support training, ensuring correct start up and operation of the system. The candidate will perform system tasks (to include configuration management and data management, when applicable) necessary to maintain the GST systems in appropriate configuration and operation. Tasks include maintaining necessary documentation, system logs management, and performing basic system administration to identify and resolve potential software and hardware issues.
The candidate must possess the flexibility to share in the responsibility of day and evening shifts, and on occasion weekends.
1. DoD Secret security clearance with ability to obtain DoD Top Secret clearance.
2. Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science / Engineering / Math / IS or related technical degree with 2 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in Computer Science / Engineering / Math / IS or related technical degree with 0 years of related experience, 4 years additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
