Northrop Grumman is in search of a Technical Writer to be a part of a dynamic and diverse team environment in Fort Belvoir, Virginia . Thenew team memberwill become part of Northrop Grumman's Army Knowledge Online (AKO) program supporting over 1.9M users worldwide on what has been recognized as the world's largest intranet portal.

The Technical Writer possesses and applies expertise on multiple complex work assignments. Assignments may be broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks. This requires operating with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems; as well as contribute to deliverables and performance metrics.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for developing, drafting, writing and editing technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, software requirement specifications, system design documents, security plans, process flows, CM, or other related technical documents in support of a client's requirements

  • Interprets and administers documentation/ communication policies and procedures

  • Advises writers and researchers in matters of style, syntax, and usage to improve the general quality and effectiveness of communications

  • Preparing and/or maintaining systems, programming and operations documentation, procedures and methods, including user reference manuals

  • Collaborate with other contractors and government personnel assigned to the project

  • Produce stoplight chart and other reports to grade the maturity of the existing program documents

  • Provide Gap Assessment/ Needs Assessment to estimate what is necessary to meet the agreed upon documentation processes, templates, requirements, acceptance criteria, and ongoing maintenance / QA

  • Exercises quality control over documents intended for external distribution

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years of related Technical writing experience OR a Master's degree with a minimum of 1 year of Technical Writing Experience/ An additional 4 years of experience may be substituted in lieu of degree requirement

  • Knowledge of technical documentation including but not limited to; Concept of Operations documents; CM Documentation; Software & Hardware inventories; Job Aids/Runbooks; system user guides and process flow charts, configuration manuals etc.

  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools, such as MSOffice 2013 Suite; including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Visio or similar process tools.

  • Familiarity or have the ability to understand and learn technical specifications, system requirements and other application design information as needed

  • A current Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Attention to detail when writing and editing to ensure appropriate grammar and format.

  • Ability to produce results to a team in a fast paced environment with the ability to meet iterative deadlines

  • Previous experience providing on-site consulting support for a technical project, preferably with a federal customer

  • Experience developing Risk Mgmt Framework (RMF) control documents to assist in performing assessments
