Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer / Principal Manufacturing Engineer for our Elkton, Maryland location.

The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY, Palm Beach Gardens, FL and San Jose, CA.

Primary Job responsibilities are:

1) Owns the manufacturing process with in depth understanding of the requirements, process, equipment, tooling & techniques as learned through in depth process analysis, participation, process observation, and communication with the cross functional team

2) Coordinating (Project Engineering, Tooling, Quality, Facility & Production personnel) the design & documentation of safe & affordable manufacturing processes.

3) Identifying & monitoring the Key Process Parameters using Statistical Process Control (SPC)

4) Evaluating opportunities for improvement of existing processes, conducting trials & verifications for improvements through a robust change process, and implementing verified changes.

5) Non-Conformance investigation to determine Root cause & Corrective Action for Process related non-conformances.

6) Defining requirements for new/repaired facilities equipment used in the production or products

7) Developing the scope of work and related estimates for proposal activity

8) Supporting production personnel on the floor as required

Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either a Manufacturing Engineer or Principal Manufacturing Engineer

Basic Requirements Manufacturing Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or other related engineering discipline required

  • 2 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment supporting assembly operations and equipment.

  • Experience in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Lean and Six Sigma techniques.

  • Ability to acquire a Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite

  • Requires some off shift and weekend work

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

Basic Requirements Principal Manufacturing Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or other related engineering discipline required

  • 5 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree or 3 years of experience with a Master's degree or a PhD

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment supporting assembly operations and equipment.

  • Experience in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Lean and Six Sigma techniques.

  • Ability to acquire a Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with process improvements, machine controls & automation is desired.

This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
