Northrop Grumman is in need of a Machinist to work at its Elkton, Maryland facility.
Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Discover charming small towns, parks with miles of trails, specialty and antique shops, award winning restaurants, and inns. You can hike, bike, camp, bird watch, ride horseback, or drop a fishing line. Five rivers, Chesapeake Bay and the C&D Canal can be explored by boat or by land. Note – this is a Second shift position. Second shift positions are eligible for an added 10% shift differential in pay.
Job Responsibilities:
Set-up and operating CNC and conventional machine shop equipment
Ability to use lathes and mills to produce parts per drawing and/or written technical specifications
Must be able to work with minimal supervision
Willing to work with explosives
This position can be filled at either the Machinist 2 or Machinist 3 level, depending on years of experience and qualifications.
Basic Requirements – Machinist level 2
High school diploma or equivalent education
Minimum 2 years of experience working in a machine shop
Must have the ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, GD & T, and other engineering specifications
Must have working knowledge of shop floor mathematics and measuring tools/equipment
Ability to set-up and operate a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders
Must be able to use basic hand tool and precision measuring instruments
Ability to lift up to 50lbs
Candidate must have a willingness to learn and possess a positive team working attitude
Excellent communication, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work safely and concern for the safety of others
Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite

Candidate must have a willingness to learn and possess a positive team working attitude
Excellent communication, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work safely and concern for the safety of others
Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
Preferred Skills:
Associates Degree
Ability to program and set-up Mazak lathes, mills, and integrex machines
Experience with Proto-Trak lathes and mills
Experience with EDM equipment
Explosive training
This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
Salary Range: $46,400 - $77,300
Salary Range 2: $55,100 - $91,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
