Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is need of an Energetics Manufacturing Engineer – level 2 or 3 to support the Propulsion Systems & Controls (PS&C) operating unit. This role would require the candidate to support the PS&C business on-site from the Elkton, MD facility . The position can be filled at a level 2 or level 3 engineering position. The level to be hired will depend on education, experience, and demonstrated skills.
Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Discover charming small towns, parks with miles of trails, specialty and antique shops, award winning restaurants, and inns. You can hike, bike, camp, bird watch, ride horseback, or drop a fishing line. Five rivers, Chesapeake Bay and the C&D Canal can be explored by boat or by land. Roles and Responsibilities:
Provide manufacturing support to operations to meet quality, delivery, and cost requirements.
Create, maintain and improve Process Control Documentation.
Establish manufacturing lines for new products and product upgrades
Establish Lean process flow
Capacity planning…. perform capacity studies/analysis
Digital modeling/simulation when appropriate
Define facility and equipment needs
Work with facilities engineering to provide cost benefit analysis to support capital projects
Establish equipment specifications
Work with vendors for equipment run-off and installation
Assist in establishing safety requirements for new facilities and equipment
Establish Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) requirements
Provide start-up support and initial training to operations
Establish required procedures
Provide training to maintenance personnel as required
Conduct continuous improvement activities
Lean manufacturing implementation (PES)
Assist operations with 5-S programs
Conduct Process FMEA’s
Generate process maps, flow charts, value stream maps
Establish standard work
Conduct time studies/audits
Monitor production touch labor costs and suggest/implement improvements to drive costs down
Establish Key Characteristics for manufacturing/processing and ensure systems are in place to monitor/control them
Basic Qualifications Energetics Manufacturing Engineer - Level 2 :
Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree in STEM discipline from an accredited university and 0 years of relevant experience
Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
Basic Qualifications Principal Energetics Manufacturing Engineer - Level 3:
Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree in STEM discipline from an accredited university and 3 years of relevant experience, or 1 year with a PhD
Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Active Secret DoD Clearance
Experience with Continuous Improvement/Lean/5-S Methodologies
Salary Range: $83,300 - $124,900
Salary Range 2: $102,400 - $153,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
