Northrop Grumman Senior Principal Engineer Tool Design Lead in El Segundo, California

Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Senior Principal Tool Designer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo , where technology and teamwork come together. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Tooling Department in a collaborative environment while promoting a positive and proactive work environment.

Senior Principal Tool Designer job duties in the Tooling Department involve the following: design industrial machinery and equipment to ensure the best tooling technique is being used to satisfy the design and manufacturing process, participating in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible and support build times and program costs during assembly, provide liaison support internally as well to external suppliers.

Designed tools should consider such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance. This position also supports offsite tooling efforts including: managing tooling suppliers, solving technical fabrication concerns at suppliers, traveling to suppliers to ensure NGC tooling requirements are met, coordinating with the analyst team for supplier bids and schedules.

Senior Principal Tool Designers are expected to provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex and difficult problems. They are problem solvers who have the ability to provide results that are innovative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectives. We seek Senior Principal Tool Designers that use a unique skill set that includes a hands-on approach and act as a technical representative voice for the Tooling organization.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8 years composite and/or assembly tooling design experience with bachelor's degree or 6 years with a master's degree or 16 years' in lieu of a degree

  • Proven record of tooling design capability and innovation at all levels of complexity

  • Proficiency with NX or CATIA

Preferred Qualifications:

  • STEM degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)

  • Active secret clearance

  • Experience with tool design in an aircraft assembly line environment
