Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking for Principal or Senior Principal Operational Analysis Engineer to join the Systems Engineering Department. Our work influences the investment decisions and development paths of our senior program leadership and customer program offices. The Ops Analysis team draws from many other disciplines (e. g. Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.) and collaborates across diverse and functional disciplines offering a unique opportunity to obtain a broad understanding of many areas as well as the opportunities to implement cutting-edge software, data, and analysis solutions. The position may be worked out of the El Segundo or San Diego office. This is an on onsite position and no hybrid or telecommute is available.
In this role you will work in a collaborative, small team environment, to build, maintain, and enhance data and software products focused on mission success. You may develop data models, define clean-sheet software requirements, develop software products, and refine existing technology to provide robust capabilities and influence technological growth within the sector. You will work across multiple teams and projects, as well as with multiple end-users to build, test, integrate and field system software capabilities.
Principal or Senior Principal Operational Analysis Engineer
The selected candidate will perform operational analysis and mission effectiveness - conducting detailed trade studies by building and implementing constructive simulations from the component through the system level.
Essential Functions:
Model operational environments, performs trade studies via computer simulation.
Performs operational analysis and mission effectiveness analysis.
Create and apply knowledge of Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) to support blue/red kill chains across multiple security environments, programs, architectures, and platforms.
Provide blue/red tactics and CONOPS modeling, simulation, and analysis in mission-level models to help accomplish long-term objectives related to program development, execution, and related research and development projects.
Perform mission engineering activities to ensure continuity between desired operational capabilities and delivered system performance, through the Systems Engineering “V”. Ensure performance capabilities of new systems and architectures are traded against cost and mission requirements; develop operationally relevant mission scenarios; assess operational effectiveness of existing and emerging systems and capabilities in representative operational environments.
Solicit input from various stakeholders, synthesize data, and communicate results to various levels of leadership.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and:
Principal Systems Engineer – 5 years of experience or 3 years of experience and Master’s Degree or 0 years of experience and PhD.
Senior Principal Systems Engineer – 8 years of experience or 6 years of experience and Master’s Degree or 3 years of experience and PhD.
Computer/engineering skills using C#/C++, JAVA, or other Object Oriented programming languages.
Experience in at least one of the following areas:
Research, Analysis, and Creating Assessments of Foreign Threats to US Military Operations
Vehicle performance analysis
Air vehicle survivability analysis
Modeling and Simulation of Radars, Missiles, Integrated Air Defense Systems (IADS), Air and/or Space platforms
Analysis at the Survivability, Lethality, Vulnerability, Engagement, and/or Mission Level
Electronic Attack (EA), Electronic Protection (EP), Electronic Countermeasures
High-fidelity modeling of physical and non-physical systems such as weather, communications, neural networks, markets, mfg. processes, etc.
Red and/or Blue CONOPs and TTPs
An active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance or higher is required to start.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
Must have ability to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ability to code using MATLAB or PYTHON.
The ability to develop physics-based models and simulations using Object Oriented programming.
An ability to work with a team in a rapid prototyping environment.
Experience with system of systems modeling tools: AFSIM, Suppressor, or Brawler.
Familiarity with AGILE, MBSE, and/or system architecture.
Operational military background or experience
Experience with version control tools (Bitbucket, GitHub, Gitlab, etc.).
Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills to include project/analysis lead experience.
A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance with current or previous Special Program Access (SAP)/SCI.
Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900
Salary Range 2: $133,000 - $199,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
