Northrop Grumman Staff Electrical Engineer - FPGA in Dulles, Virginia

Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems is seeking an experienced Staff Electrical Engineer FPGA to provide leadership to our Satellite Manufacturing Facility in Dulles, VA.

This Staff Engineer researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. This person designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. Additionally, the ideal candidate will display these competencies and experience:

Able to assess the engineering value stream in their area of responsibility with input from key stakeholders. Initiate continuous improvement activities to create high quality and efficient processes. Improve planning, execution and tracking methods to increase electrical engineering process excellence. Increase the understanding and use of strategy deployment, kaizen, problem solving, and lessons learned.

Demonstrated acumen in coaching, supporting and motivating engineers to ensure a high performing team. Experience with creating and maintaining development and succession plans for team members and leading recruiting efforts to maintain team capabilities.

Support technology growth in innovation identification, roadmap development and proposal preparation.

Set and promote high standards of quality and safety. Maintains selected Electrical Engineering processes and drives technical excellence by ensuring team output meets technical standards.

Maintains knowledge of best practices and technology innovations by attending industry events and educational activities. Serves as an independent reviewer in select product or technology areas.

Represent and communicate NGIS technical capabilities and technologies to internal and external customers. Present deliverables at program technical reviews, proposal reviews, or other technical meetings.

Prepare, review and approve cost estimates for written technical proposals. Manage cost and schedule for independent research or process improvement projects assigned to your team.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering

At least twenty (15) years of Electrical Engineering experience

At least ten (10) years of FPGA experience

US Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong experience with FPGA design required, including the ability to generate both FPGA and associated test bench-level requirements from higher assembly and system level requirements, and develop sound FPGA architectures.

Demonstrated experience in translating requirements to code and performing detailed RTL and gate level simulation, as well as timing analysis and closure.

Demonstrated experience with VHDL or Verilog is required. System Verilog for FPGA validation is a plus.

Experience with Xilinx and Microsemi FPGA target devices for space is preferred.

Experience with C, C++, or similar languages a plus

Experience with Matlab for data modeling and analysis is a plus.

Hands-on in the lab and experience with meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and other electronics test equipment for debug and validation is required.
