Adaptive Optics Associates - Xinetics (AOA Xinetics), a wholly-owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Venture, is currently seeking a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to support Xinetics business activities in Devens MA.
AOA Xinetics (AOX) designs, develops, and manufactures precision, advanced optical products and systems such as deformable mirrors, optical systems, adaptive optics control systems and silicon carbide optical structures for the U.S. Government, commercial customers, and U.S. defense prime and second-tier contractors. Markets for these technologies include civilian astronomy, semiconductor capital equipment, Defense ISR, and Directed Energy. Several potential direct and adjacent application areas also exist.
AOX delivers industrial photonics systems and development services for a variety of customers and applications. AOX excels in a range of applications from adaptive optical systems, deformable mirrors, wavefront sensors, precision actuators, to photonic systems that acquire and process data in real time for a variety of high availability applications. AOX's capabilities include lightweight passive and active hybrid CERAFORM silicon carbide optics and precision structures as well as large and small precision opto-mechanical systems supporting electronics and sophisticated controls software.
Overview Reporting to the Xinetics Engineering Manager, the Senior Principal Electrical Engineer will perform electrical design, analysis, test and existing product support for deformable mirror driver systems. As a member of an interdisciplinary team of engineers and scientists, you will function as the technical lead and primary technical resource on project teams and hardware engineering activities. The successful candidate should have proven abilities in electronic hardware product design, design support to proposal development, product test definition, and requirement specification development. You will be responsible for designing hardware that satisfies system requirements, documenting design approaches, detailing cable and CCA drawings to support the development, manufacture, and test of mirror driver systems. Responsibilities:
With minimal supervision, perform electrical engineering on multiple projects through all phases of development and manufacturing.
Using existing driver designs, develop new driver CCA designs that will survive airborne and space based environments
Perform schematic capture, board layout, and printed wiring design in Mentor Graphics DxDesigner
Ensure documentation rigor and all configuration management practice compliance
Collaborating with peers and other engineering disciplines in architecting, planning, designing and prototyping complex electromechanical and optical systems
Support the design and development of test equipment, fixturing and tools
Complete tasks according to schedule, budget, cost, and design requirements
Develop ingenious and creative technical solutions to complex problems
Support transition to production and manufacturing engineering
Perform trade studies, design of experiments, assembly and testing of parts, components, and assemblies
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors in Science in Electrical Engineering
9+ years' experience in analog, digital, and mixed electronic system design and the following:
Experience ruggedizing lab based designs for airborne and space applications
Modular design
Switching amplifiers, FET Drivers, DSP, 24 BIT switching drive signals
Low power design
RS-232, LVDS
Conduction and Convection thermal management
Design for reliability, manufacturing, test
Power supply
High speed backplane design
Low system latency
Closed loop PID Control
Demonstrates a solid understanding of Electrical design, analysis, and simulation best practices
Full lifecycle design experience of multilayer SMT printed circuit boards (PCBs)
Design for reliability, manufacturing, and test
Electrical testing, debug, and integration; familiarity with typical electrical test instrumentation
Able to analyze, problem solve, multi-task and meet deadlines
Excellent verbal/written communication skills, results-oriented and deadline driven
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work independently with limited supervision
Proficient in MS Office skills and Mentor DxDesigner
US Citizenship is a requirement for employment
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
7+ years' experience
SOR422U, FPDP
SerDes data conversion
Xilinx FPGA development
Experience developing and delivering high reliability systems for the US Government
Advanced technical business or management degree
Active Top Secret DoD Security Clearance
Working Environment & Physical Demands:
Domestic/International travel up to 10-20% of the time
Ability to sit for extended periods of times and light physical effort required
