Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Propulsions Division is currently seeking an experienced Principal/ Sr. Principal Project Propulsion Engineer to be provide technical execution for Nozzle and PPS teams to conclude program development and lead transition into production of the Conventional Prompt Strike Missile at the Promontory, UT Facility.

Role description & Responsibilities:

The Principal Project Engineer is responsible for completion of all technical aspects of Development, Qualification, and Production of the First Stage and Second Stage Solid Rocket motors. These positions will manage the technical products and aspects associated with design, engineering & manufacturing development (EMD), and follow-on production phases.

Job Duties:

  • Design authority for the First Stage and Second Stage Nozzle and Propellant Protection System (PPS) design.

  • Completion of program FCA for FCA

  • Coordination and implementation of design and analysis activities

  • Verification of allocated of requirements.

  • PPS is new program to develop a nozzle baffle to eliminate water intrusion during underwater launch while allowing venting of launch pulse gasses that could damage the first stage case. Program is in early SRR phase and will continue thru full scale and flight testing. Position will be responsible coordinating for design development, analysis, testing and requirements verification.

  • Supports Nozzle production operations

  • Assemble and develop efficient cross functional teams to execute plans.

  • Identify design concepts and mature into design solutions that meet the customer needs

  • Develop MS Project based master schedules, integrated logic flows, work breakdown, and assist in program cost estimates

  • Development of test plans and coordination of testing with test engineers

  • Identification of risks/mitigations and tracking to closure in Risk Tracker

  • Coordination and Conducting Reviews

  • Lead problem and failure investigations

  • Write technical reports

  • Presentations - internal and external

  • Ability to Travel expectation of 5% - 10%

  • Experience in Change Management Process, Engineering Task Manager, MRB, technical writing (test plans and reports), and change board presentations (Change summary as well as technical justification)

Education/Certifications

  • BS degree in Engineering required

  • 5 Years with BS; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD

  • Position can be filled one level higher, 9 Years with a BS, 7 Years with MS and 4 years with Ph.D.

  • Ability to work with energetic materials as a U. S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, firearms and explosives; "Employee Possessor" - required

  • US Citizenship - required

Experience Preferred :

  • Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years in solid rocket motor design and/or manufacturing experience.

  • Strong understanding of solid rocket motor system design, development, and manufacture

  • Demonstrated experience with problem solving, problem investigation teams and critical decision making skills

  • Strong understanding and broad application of PS engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience in generating technical solutions in the absence of complete customer requirements.

  • Management of engineering scope as it pertains to budgeting and participation in EAC reviews.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations.

  • Demonstrated team leadership skills - leader of significant technical projects or investigations and management of multiple program tasks to schedule and budget Experience with the proposal process.

  • Knowledge and experience in System Engineering tools and disciplines

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and design for manufacturability

Salary Range: $90,400 - $135,600

Salary Range 2: $112,000 - $168,000

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
