Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Systems Architect – Global Algorithm Architect (24-316) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

Provide technical expertise and support in developing and analyzing complex algorithms in support of new BMDS capabilities as part of the Global Agile Release Train (ART). The candidate will assist in the execution, analysis, and trades of Track Server algorithms over large data sets. Participate in developing and documenting complex algorithms and how those algorithms are applied in application software, as well as creating and validating test sets to prove proper implementations as needed. Report to the Global ART EPM and be responsible to the Global Architect Lead for adhering to architectural guidance as part of implementation. Travel is expected to Schriever SFB or other CONUS locations to interact with team members and customers.

Essential Functions:

  • Working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) are required, as is the ability to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.

  • Experience working in missile defense or related domains, including operational and technical knowledge of engagement management, track management, and sensor management, is required.

  • Proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions.

  • Experienced in technical interaction with government customers.

Basic Qualifications:

Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

  • An active Top-Secret clearance is required to start.

  • 8 years experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Math, Science, or Engineering focusing on Data Analytics or a related field; 6 years with a Master's degree; or 12 years experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Algorithm design techniques and Kinematic/ Dynamic System modeling are must-haves.

  • Working with Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence, Optimal control, State Estimation, Statistical Analysis, Stochastic processes, Target Tracking/Correlation, and Orbital Mechanics.

  • Well-versed in utilizing Data Analytics to analyze system performance on large data sets, visualize complex data sets, and perform trades on algorithm implementations.

  • Experience in developing Algorithm Description Documents (ADDs) is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with BMDS systems is highly desired.

  • Direct experience in one or more of the following algorithm domains is highly desired:

  • target tracking, target classification, and target prediction.

  • Working knowledge of software development processes and transitioning algorithms into production software is strongly desired, as is knowledge of object-oriented analysis and design principles.

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:

Salary Range: $121,000 - $181,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
