Satellite and Ground Systems Engineer
Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Satellite and Ground System Engineer to be a member of a cross-discipline specialty operations and engineering team located in Colorado Springs, CO responsible for satellite constellation command and control, mission planning, system problem/anomaly resolution, data trending, operational product sustainment and performance analyses. The team also provides program expertise on subsystems engineering and maintains a baseline of operational products for a highly complex system. The candidate will have an active role in shaping the basis of how to execute satellite planning and operations. The candidate should be a self-starter who has a passion for space and wants to be part of a team who shares that passion.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Supporting 24x7 on-orbit operations throughout the flight demonstration phase of a complex space system
Providing mission planning expertise to maintain spacecraft/payload and ground system health
Developing and enhancing operational procedures, scripts, tools and processes
Investigating and diagnosing unexpected system signatures
Supporting the coordination and execution of system maintenance tasks across multiple contractor organizations including customer and external system partners
Providing training and support to customer personnel and the development of TTPs for the system
Candidate must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment and work under general direction while independently determining and developing approaches to solutions.
This requisition is for multiple candidates to be a part of a 24x7 operational crew. Shift work required; multiple positions at varying experience levels will be filled
This requisitio may be filled at a hgher grade based on qualifications listed below.
This requisition may be filled at either a Satellite and Ground System Engineer 2 level or Principal Satellite and Ground System Engineer 3 level.
Satellite and Ground System Engineer 2: Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) and 2-5 years' experience in a related engineering field such as mechanical, electrical, aerospace and/or operations OR a Masters Degree (STEM).
Salary minimum: $74,240
Salary maximum: $111,360
Principal Satellite and Ground System Engineer 3: Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) and 5-9 years' experience in a related engineering field such as mechanical, electrical, aerospace and/or operations; Masters Degree with 3-7 years of expeirence; OR PhD.
Salary minimum: $92,000
Salary maximum: $138,000
Basic Qualifications (continued):
Knowledge and experience in satellite operations activities including command and control, mission planning and ground system operations
Current DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI
Experience interacting closely with customers in an operational environment
Experience supporting mission simulations, scripting, rehearsals and system verification activities
Experience with troubleshooting, anomaly resolution and performing analysis on operational systems
Ability to develop and maintain operational procedures, products and training materials
Ability to work odd and/or extended hours covering a 24/7 period and periodic rotating shifts
Familiarity/exposure to orbital mechanics/astrodynamics
Experience with rendezvous and proximity operations or formation flight
Familiar with astrodynamics tools such as System Tool Kit (STK), FreeFlyer, NASA General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT), Orbit Determination Toolbox (ODTBX)
Proficiency with one or more of the following programming languages/tools: MATLAB, Python, SIMULINK, Fortran, Java, C/ C++ Prior aerospace-related work experience for a U.S Government Agency or Contractor
Familiarity with satellite subsystems to include attitude control, power management, thermal control, propulsion, command and data handling or flight/ground software
