Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems Sector organization is seeking applicants for a position on the Sustainment and Modernization of Radar Sensors (SMORS) program as a Principal Systems Engineer or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer. This position will serve as a Systems Analyst on the Perimeter Acquisition Radar Attack Characterization System (PARCS) Systems Engineering team. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.

The successful candidate will support performance analysis and modernization of the PARCS mission scenarios. This will include contributing to requirements engineering and system analysis activities consistent with international systems engineering standards and best practices, such as ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288.

What You'll Get to Do:

  • Contribute to System Requirements Definition activities (i.e., evaluation of existing specifications to identify system performance requirements)

  • Contribute to System Analysis activities, such as:

  • Mission thread and use case analyses to refine and validate identified requirements

  • Evaluation of existing scenarios to identify gaps related to current scenario stimuli

  • Evaluation of new threat information to map threat models to verification plans

  • Perform requirements analysis for simulation tool solution

  • Contribute to Verification activities, such as:

  • Development of verification plans for identified performance requirements to derive conditions for specifying new scenario stimuli

  • Identification of verification methods for meeting scenario conditions

  • Specifying criteria for validating new scenarios

  • Contribute to the development of Requirements Engineering artifacts, such as stakeholder requirements specifications and system/software requirements specifications consistent with DOD Data Item Description guidance

  • Contribute to requirements engineering activities in support of Architectural Design (i.e., architecture definition, analysis, and evaluation)

  • Support Requirements Management including Change Management (i.e., Configuration Management, Information Management) and Measurement (i.e., planning and performing measurement of requirements)

  • Support the systems engineering team in implementing model-based systems engineering (MBSE) to analyze phased array radar system performance

  • Contribute to preparation of technical briefings for senior leadership and Air Force customer stakeholders

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Systems Engineer or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BQs for a Principal Systems Engineer are: Education/Experience: 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD within a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited college

  • BQs for a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer are: Education/Experience 9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD within a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited college

  • Active Secret security clearance

  • Contributing to the translation of stakeholder needs into a complete, consistent set of system technical requirements

  • Developing use cases and modeling or simulating scenarios in both nominal and off-nominal conditions

  • Utilizing modeling and simulation tools and techniques to represent a system

  • Selecting and defining appropriate representations or analyses of a system

  • Utilizing appropriate system analysis techniques to derive information about the real system

  • Utilizing proven analytical methods to evaluate system performance against requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Contributing to the definition and analysis of system models to validate requirements completeness and consistency

  • Supporting development of verification plans including definition of verification methods and acceptance criteria

  • Determining data to be collected to assess system operational performance

  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of system requirement specifications throughout the lifecycle

  • Leveraging results of system analysis activities to inform system architectural design

  • Experience with commercially available modeling and analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Mathematica)

  • Analyzing phased array radar system performance in a missile warning or SSA operational context

  • Modeling radar system functions (transmit, receive, waveform generation, beam steering, signal processing, etc.)

  • Specifying requirements for, architecting, or verifying radar subsystem assemblies

  • Familiar with the Perimeter Acquisition Radar Attack Characterization System (PARCS) or Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) Precision Acquisition Vehicle Entry (PAVE) Phased Array Warning System (PAWS) (BPP).

  • Eliciting and validating stakeholder needs, expectations, and constraints

  • Managing requirements and assessing impacts of changes on the solution

  • Establishing and monitoring system key performance parameters (KPPs) throughout the lifecycle

  • Identifying, defining and controlling system element interfaces

  • Leveraging requirements analysis to inform system architectural design

  • Supporting management of models or modeling tools that are produced within a project

  • Reverse engineering and defining structure, interfaces, behavior, and requirements from legacy documentation

  • Contributing to the preparation of milestone briefings (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR)

  • Assisting with the measurement, assessment and reporting of SE tasks against plans

  • Assisting with the identification, assessment, and analysis of risks and deployment of mitigation activities

  • Familiar with key stages in the acquisition of a system, product or service

  • Assisting with generation and maintenance of a data dictionary and technical data library

  • Supporting configuration change control activities

  • Proficient with commercially available modeling and analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Mathematica)

  • Experience with commercially available requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS)

  • Experience with the Systems Modeling Language (SysML)

  • Experience with commercially available architecting tools such as PTC Integrity Modeler, Cameo EA/MagicDraw, etc.
