Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Associate Structural Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Clearfield, Utah.
The selected candidate will be part of a team supporting the development and implementation of a new technology developed at the Clearfield, Utah facility to protect composite structures used for rocket motors and other aerospace structures. This selected candidate will help qualify this new technology for the recently awarded Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) and Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) programs in support our national defense strategy.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
Analysis of structural components, stress and strain states, thermal analysis, and/or design.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using Abaqus and/or Nastran
Write reports and communicate with team members through presentations
Model development and simulation
Support the investigation of issues
Support work in both a laboratory environment and pilot scale manufacturing operation
The ideal candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations. You are comfortable in a lab environment and able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university
The ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering
Understanding of carbon fiber composite materials and properties
Experience with Finite Element Analysis using pre and post processors and sizing software such as Abaqus CAE, Femap, NX Simulation, ANSYS, HyperMesh, OptiStruct, and HyperSizer
Active DoD Secret clearance
