An organization within Northrop Grumman Space Systems' Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division, SYNOPTICS is the world-wide leader in the growth, fabrication, and coating of crystalline materials used in laser systems. These "solid-state" laser crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems. The Charlotte facility has been operating for over 40 years in the laser industry and has developed the reputation of providing the highest quality products with timely deliveries. Within the facility, solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals are grown from a high-temperature melt. SYNOPTICS has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries. Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate all area equipment to perform testing, evaluation, and production as needed.

  • Perform routine maintenance on coating chambers and measurement equipment.

  • Support the manufacturing with on-the-floor presence, involvement, and decision-making

  • Modeling and reverse engineering of as-deposited coating designs and results

  • Communicate quality concerns to management or supervision in a timely manner.

  • Audit processes, create, or update area documentation as needed.

  • Perform dimensional as well as passive laser measurements.

  • Provide appropriate test data and reports to Management Team.

  • Use Spectrophotometry to qualify coatings and evaluate controls.

  • Interpret engineering prints to ensure specific deliverables are met.

  • Monitor and control critical process parameters through yield analysis and proactive run reviews.

  • Generate process improvements and solve technical issues in timely manner, using accepted problem-solving techniques and sound engineering practices.

  • Develop and participate in team projects to improve processes to enhance quality or reduce cost.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Ability to work with small parts - visual acuity and manual dexterity skills are required.

  • Analytical thought process; data-driven and results-oriented.

  • Regular, punctual attendance is required as well as overtime and shift flexibility when required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience working in manufacturing preferred.

  • Thin film design experience preferred.

  • Experience with optical coating processes, deposition software and hardware strongly preferred.

  • Previous optical metrology experience strongly preferred.

Salary Range: $41,600 - $69,300

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
