Northrop Grumman's Space Systems is seeking a motivated candidate that will fill the position of Principal Spacecraft Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer within the Launch Vehicle business unit located in Chandler, AZ to support the Zombie Program. .
GNC is designing, building, testing spacecraft components for a mix of DoD, NASA, and commercial customers.
The GNC Engineer will Design, develop, implement, verify and test algorithms and software and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control of missiles, launch vehicles and upper stages during powered and coast phases of launch, flight, earth orbit, interplanetary cruise and orbital insertion, as well as during staging events. Navigation functions include the statistical processing of measured data points (e.g. Inertial Measurement Units, GPS, altimeters, etc) and their substitution into algorithms estimating physical reality. Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations to achieve a desired position, orientation or orbit in space. Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control laws and hardware and software requirements to ensure stable and robust flight.
The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for providing priority guidance, navigation and control technical contributions for a missile defense targets program. Familiarity with rocket motor propelled vehicle trajectory design and customer provided requirement analysis in a flight software in simulation environment is required. Proven experience with autopilot and guidance algorithm design and navigation and actuator subsystems is preferred. This position will leverage the candidate's excellent communication skills to report program milestones and technical approaches and findings to GNC and program management.
Requires Bachelor's in Engineering/Computer Science & 5 years or Masters in Engineering/Computer Science & 3 years or PhD.
U.S. Citizenship is required
Ability to obtain a Secret Security clearance is required
Experience with the C++ and Python programming languages
Experience with the Linux Operating System
Active US Security Clearance
