Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking an experienced Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to serve as Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) Program Lead Systems Architecture Engineer as part of the Systems Engineering Integration & Test team within Launch Vehicles business unit in our Chandler, AZ office.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

The NGI Lead Systems Architecture Engineer is directly responsible for managing the System-level architecture including Use Case development, Mission CONOPS, both operational and standard Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) views, and System-level allocations. The NGI Lead Systems Architecture Engineer supports the Chief Engineer in the development and maintenance of the technical baseline and coordinates synchronization across the allocated, functional, and detailed design baselines. The Lead Systems Architecture Engineer works under the technical direction of the Chief Engineer and the programmatic direction of Systems Engineering IPT Program Lead to define and coordinate Systems Engineering Technical work efforts per program schedule

The Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer will serve as the Lead Systems Architecture Engineer for the system architecture aspects of the NGI Program, requiring the candidate to function in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment. The NGI Lead Systems Architecture Engineer is expected to provide leadership of the systems engineering effort including direct and in-direct management of systems engineers with limited oversight from engineering senior leadership personnel in a collaborative environment. The Lead Systems Architecture Engineer directly supports the creation of system architectures, system physical views - system elements (blocks) and critical interfaces (internal and external). The Lead will also review the entire model to ensure all aspects of the Booster are modeled (to the extent possible) and will manage a group of Responsible Systems Engineers (RSEs) that focus on key components or aspects of the Booster (and their respective architectures in the model). This person will also participate in the creation of, and manages changes to, system or subsystem analytical models using MBSE tools such as CAMEO. Finally, the Lead Systems Architecture Engineer will create changes to Functional/Logical/Physical Model of System Architecture, as well as System Representations.

The candidate should possess strong technical problem solving, written and verbal communication skills to generate and document system level launch vehicle requirements, perform vehicle performance assessments and participate in system level verification/data review activities. The candidate should be competent in MBSE, or can coordinate closely with an MBSE Coach, to maintain model completeness and accuracy across the system.

The candidate should possess a strong resolve to drive tasks to completion autonomously and possess demonstrated mentoring/training skills. The candidate will be required to travel domestically on a periodic basis. ( Creates new system requirements.

The Lead Systems Architecture Engineer:

Provides regular interface with program management, engineering staff and external customers is expected.

Provides clear task definitions across Technical Leads, and provides clear, consistent communication to direct the efforts of Technical Leads within SEIT IPT

Presents architecture solution alternatives to Chief Engineer for review

Coordinates technical reviews (schedule, agendas, action items, etc.) with government or their designated technical representatives

Coordinates baselines across system level requirements, architecture and detailed design requirements

Coordinates the creation of, and goals for, Functional Analysis, Performance Analyses, Constraint Analyses, Trade Studies and Verification Cases

Coordinates the interdependencies of engineering analyses (Use cases, Modeling & Simulation, Trades, Verification)

Coordinates the prioritization of engineering analyses to mitigate technical and program risks

Coordinates Interface management across IPTs

Coordinates maintenance of architecture system views and their textual narratives for stakeholder and milestone reviews as well as contractual artifacts

Ensures completeness of architecture definitions and views to support CDRLs and milestone reviews

Creates and modifies management tracking reports for a variety of systems engineering performance parameters, resource metrics and design margins.

Supports trade studies, system sensitivity studies, design optimization studies, system performance assessments, system design assessments, Operations Analysis work such as mission analysis and timelines and CONOPS development.

Performs cost estimates and project planning as a Cost Account Manager (CAM).

The candidate should be willing to occasionally work during odd hours (nights/weekends) and occasionally longer than normal (>40 hrs/wk) to meet deadlines.

This position may be offered at the Principal Engineer Systems Level 3 or Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Level 4 .

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

If offered at the Principal Engineer Systems Level 3

  • 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD. Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of related work experience.

  • Candidate must have a DoD Secret level security clearance which generally requires US Citizenship as a prerequisite.

If offered at the Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Level 4

  • 9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD. Candidate must have a minimum of years of related work experience.

  • Candidate must have a DoD Secret level security clearance which generally requires US Citizenship as a prerequisite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A strong experienced-based and academic foundation in Systems Engineering fundamentals is desired.

  • Experience with Northrop Grumman Space Systems LVBU Systems Engineering standards/guidelines and expectations is desired.
