As the Division Assistant Controller, you always act with integrity, and the highest ethical standards in everything you do. You help create and maintain trusted internal customer relationships, enabling strong collaboration across the entire organization.

Northrop Grumman's Launch and Missile Defense Systems division (LMDS) is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to provide accounting and control expertise and leadership within the Division. This position will be located in Chandler, Arizona and will report directly to the LMDS Division Controller.

Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting the Division Controller and Division Vice President of Business Management with all accounting, rates, budgets, controls, revenue recognition, and compliance functions for the division ensuring compliance with GAAP, FAR, CAS and all internal financial reporting standards (IFRS).

  • Interfacing and coordinating with the three Business Unit Business Management teams to provide support, direction, and technical expertise regarding all accounting and compliance functions. Be an integral team member in the Sector controller organization and ensure alignment between the Business Units, Division, and Sector.

  • Ensuring complete adherence to internal control processes and certifications to ensure on-going compliance and financial statement integrity as required by the Sarbanes Oxley Act and SEC reporting.

  • Supporting internal/external audit activities including audit participation and training and preparation of organizations being audited. Ensuring compliance with all statutory and contractual commitments with special focus on business systems rules to ensure adequacy in passing all DCAA/DCMA audits.

  • Supporting the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. Providing direction on how costs should be recorded to ensure compliance with IFRS/GAAP. Approving accounting entries and account reconciliations to support month end closing and SOX compliance.

  • Overseeing month end and quarter end financial reports submitted to the sector to ensure SEC reporting accuracy.

  • Ensuring compliance with FAR and CAS including providing directives on cost charging, cost allocation and cost classification including direct vs. indirect, capital vs. expense, IR&D/B&P/process services vs. direct cost.

  • Supporting the forward-looking rates development and maintenance processes. Serving as the primary point of contact for the Division and Sector regarding all aspects of rates and budgets. Teaming with the Business Unit and Sector rates and budgets organizations. Overseeing the preparation and calculation of year-end actual indirect rates and submission of final indirect rates to the government.

  • Leading the development and management of annual Division budgets with monthly reporting support.

  • Leading the forecast of cash inflows and outflows in support of quarter-end and year-end cash objectives. Helping identify and recommending improvements to division and business unit cash positions.

  • Managing division balance sheet analysis in coordination with the sector and corporate shared services and general accounting function(s). Conducting balance sheet reviews on behalf of the Division.

  • Implementing process improvements and/or new controls as needed to improve efficiency and improve compliance and control



Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with 8+ years of related experience in accounting, finance, business management, or a related field - OR - a Master's degree with 6+ years of professional experience as described above.

  • CPA designation.

  • Public accounting experience or audit experience at a large Aerospace and Defense company.

  • Well-developed people leadership skills and at least 3 years of supervisory experience.

  • Ability to effectively lead diverse teams that are geographically dispersed and having direct and indirect reporting relationships.

  • Strong financial leadership and analytical skills and experience presenting financial information to executive leadership.

  • Demonstrated understanding and background in public-company financial reporting standards and U.S. Government procurement regulations including FAR and CAS.

  • Experience with internal and external audit agencies.

  • Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance. US Citizenship is a prerequisite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Secret Clearance preferred.

  • Direct experience at a U.S. Government contractor/DoD/Aerospace and Defense company with experience in program finance and accounting, overhead/forward pricing rate development, EAC management and a strong understanding long-term contract revenue recognition.
