Northrop Grumman's Space Systems - Propulsion Systems is currently seeking an Integration/Systems Project Engineer for our 3900 (CPS Hypersonics) team supporting several locations within the Flight Systems but home location would be either the Promontory (Brigham) or Bacchus (Magna), UT facilities.
Role description & Responsibilities:
The CPS Integration/Systems Project Engineer will be responsible for both the first and second stage of the CPS missile. This position will include oversight of integration and systems engineers. The person applying for this position should have a strong background in integration engineering and at least a basic understanding of systems engineering and project engineering. The production of these missiles take place in Promontory, Bacchus and Clearfield. Since these motors are produced in multiple locations with team members located at all three sites, plus a high level of customer interaction, a high level of coordination/organization is required. This role will report to the Hypersonic CPS Chief Engineer.
Job Duties:
Serve as the integration and systems design authority for the CPS first and second stage rocket motors
Provide leadership and direction to the Integration/Systems Engineering team. Manage the team and ensure that people on the team are working towards program priorities. Ensure the team is well coordinated and integrated
Provide technical support and interactions with the customer. The goal is to ensure customer satisfaction in all integration and systems efforts
Provide judgement/direction on the technical adequacy of integration related design, analysis and testing activities and systems
Work on problem solving and support failure investigations of technical issues
Owner of systems and integration documents. Ensure the team produces high quality, accurate and on time drawings, specs, reports, etc. to support production schedules
Drive timely and clearly communicated decisions and recommendations. Ensure the team and the CPS Chief Engineer receive timely status and updates
Work with Science & Engineering functional management to assure proper technical support
Provide technical direction on contract changes and Statement of Work negotiations
Drive technical excellence (by upholding technical standards for project, managing technical risks, supporting cost goals, and ensuring requirements compliance)
Champion company values, including safety, best practices and continuous improvement
Qualifications:
Experience Requirements:
Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years in solid rocket motor design and manufacture experience. A background in integration is needed
Ability to travel: Travel expectation of 5% - 10%
Strong understanding of solid rocket motor system design, development, and manufacture
Experience Preferred:
Engineering leadership experience in solid rocket motor development, qualification, and production cycles
Demonstrated credibility with internal and external customers
Proposal technical volume lead experience
Masters in an Engineering
Skills & Qualifications:
A working knowledge of the design and production of many solid rocket motor components, particularly integration of the motor
Demonstrated experience with problem solving, problem investigation teams and critical decision making skills
Strong understanding and broad application of PSD engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)
Demonstrated experience in generating technical solutions in the absence of complete customer requirements
Management of engineering scope as it pertains to budgeting and participation in EAC reviews
Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner
Strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations
Demonstrated team leadership skills - leader of significant technical projects or investigations and management of multiple program tasks to schedule and budget Experience with the proposal process
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Education/Certifications
- BS degree in Engineering or related filed and 9 years of experience, 7 years and a MS or 5 with a PhD
