NG Space Systems is currently seeking a Principal Structural Analyst for our Metal Structures team supporting several locations within the Flight Systems but home location would be the Promontory (Brigham), UT facility.
Role description & Responsibilities:
The Structural Analyst is responsible for performing structural analyses of rocket motor metal hardware; both primary and secondary structures. Candidate will also be responsible for performing structural analysis to evaluate sensitivity to as-built imperfections (out of tolerance conditions) of selected metallic structures.
Assess the structural integrity of rocket propulsion systems and related components using traditional closed form solutions as well as finite element techniques
Plan and oversee structural tests and material characterization tests of various materials used in the design of rockets
Reduce material characterization test data into analysis input properties and material capability properties
Prepare reports and memos documenting structural assessment activities and results
Prepare and make presentations summarizing structural assessment results for internal review boards and external customers
Perform assessment and develop disposition of discrepant hardware and hardware anomalies
nteract with design and development teams (teams include specialists in Design, Quality, Safety, Thermal, Materials, Operations) to create and verify creative design solutions that meet all requirements (technical, cost, schedule)
Strong knowledge of ANSYS APDL macro language, ANSYS workbench, Finite Element Analysis, structural analysis and their application
Strong background in design and modeling software
Strong and demonstrated communication, planning, project management and presentation skills
Skills & Qualifications:
Experience with CAD and NX software is required
Research/course work in composite structures a plus
Research/course work in fatigue analysis and/or fracture mechanics a plus
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
5 Years of experience with BS; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD
Position can be filled at a higher level, 9 Years with BS; 7 Years withMasters; 4 Years with PhD
- MS Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering with emphasis in structural analysis, solid mechanics, or finite element theory, and at least 3 years of related experience
