Northrop Grumman Engineer Hardware 4 - Digital Circuit Design / Embedded ARM & PowerPC Processors in Beavercreek, Ohio
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a Hardware Engineer to perform leading-edge design, development, and integration of hardware for digital/embedded systems to support modernization of avionics. The Engineer will be part of the development team operating in a dynamic, fast paced environment located in Dayton, OH.
The qualified applicant will conduct research, design, development, and testing of digital/embedded systems. Designs new or modifies existing products, develops technical specifications for production, analyzes hardware configuration and processing solutions, and tests hardware conformance to specifications.
The qualified applicant will be involved in the full life cycle of product development. Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Develop and document system, hardware, and firmware requirements, specifications, and test plans.
Design and develop the hardware design and capture using CAD
Verify key aspects of the design by modeling using PSpice / LTSpice, Matlab, Python, and/or other tools.
Determine and document power dissipation, power requirements, component heating, and derating
Provide design direction and review of printed circuit boards (PCBs) implementing the design
Support engineering analysis of circuit cards, assemblies, and chassis (vibration, heat dissipation, mechanical clearance)
Design and develop firmware
Verify key aspects of the design by modeling using VHDL testbenches and ModelSim
Integrate and debug the hardware and firmware
Integration and debug of assemblies and chassis
The qualified applicant will also support part selection, PCB fabrication and assembly, board and system level qualification testing. He or she will support resolution of qualification testing issues including travel to test facilities to provide onsite support. The applicant will be expected to travel to customer locations to support product integration and testing.
The Hardware Engineer will apply the appropriate standards, processes, procedures and tools throughout the system development life cycle. He/she will be expected to interface with customers, suppliers, and other technical support personnel. The qualified applicant will provide guidance and technical mentoring for junior staff members.
9 Years applicable Hardware Engineering experience with Bachelors in Science, STEM or related Technical degree; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD
Experience with RTL code development using VHDL or Verilog (VHDL is preferred).
Experience with embedded ARM and PowerPC processors, Artix, Zynq, and Zynq Ultrascale.
Experience doing digital circuit design, including schematic capture through test and integration.
U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
Configuration and management of firmware projects for Xilinx Vivaldo or ISE using TCL.
Design experience with Signal Processing, DSP design, and algorithmic code development and the integration of SDR functions to digital hardware, preferably Xilinx System-on-a-Chip FPGAs.
Experience with CPLDs, discrete logic, power control with MOSFETS, point of load power supplies, High speed serial (SERDES, SPI, PCI, PCIe, etc.).
Simulation and modeling using PSpice / LTSpice, Matlab, and/or Python. Signal integrity modeling is a plus.
Schematic capture using Cadence OrCAD or Allegro HDL.
Review of board layout using Cadence Allegro.
The ability to solder and construct prototypes and/or breadboards.
