What You'll get to Do:

This Director will be the senior MS engineering executive for the NIS employees supporting the NG Microelectronics Center (NGMC). This position is responsible for all software and digital technologies; hardware; and systems engineering, integration, and test activities across geographically distributed sites including Baltimore, Annapolis Junction, Sacramento and Beavercreek. This Director will also oversee all engineering business-facing activities at the campuses and will be responsible for directing the functional home room as well as engineering performance excellence.

The Director of Engineering will lead a management and technical staff of approximately 700 staff who support a variety of programs in different life cycle stages. The director will focus on performance, people leadership and business growth and demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. The candidate will have an ability to operate independently based on strategic objectives, work in a team environment, and collaborate across the sector and corporation as required to accomplish the team goals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Organization leadership and strategic vision developing roadmaps that support talent development, processes, and tools in alignment with Sector and Enterprise initiatives

  • Provide cross-site coordination for key E&S activities and initiatives, also working to build collaboration with the P&L and our peer organizations (Operations, Business Management, HR, etc)

  • Ensure engineering and technical expertise while driving performance excellence into our operations at the NGMC sites

  • Champion vision of E&S and partner with NIS leaders for continuity and consistency

  • Communicate and implement E&S vision and goals

  • Ensure overall E&S goals are being accomplished through site and program activities

  • Develop E&S leadership team in support of rapidly increasing business to enable robust bench depth of future P&L and E&S leaders.

  • Serve as primary engineering PoC for business development managers for support to Business Acquisition Process (BAP) activities

  • Talent Management: identify skills mix based on business needs and forecast needs for experienced hires, college graduates and interns. Build and execute strategy for full life-cycle talent management; hire, retain, deploy and develop talent.

  • Oversee site engineering redeployment efforts and ensure a close partnership partners based on business priorities

  • Facilitate and promote affordability, knowledge management, engineering utilization, and other process improvement initiatives including the implementation and monitoring of metrics covering engineering efficiency and quality, as well as sharing of lessons learned and best practices throughout the organization.

The position is located in Baltimore and requires travel to up to 25% of the time.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or related technical fields with 14 years of experience; Master's degree with 10 years of experience; PhD with 8 years of experience

• Working knowledge of Staffing, Engineering Metrics and Training resources, processes, and tools

• Experience effectively leading diverse technical teams across multiple locations

• Working familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, and CMMI

• Active DoD Secret Clearance required; US Citizenship is required in order to obtain and maintain security clearance

• Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• 8 years of professional experience in the defense or aerospace industries

• 5 years demonstrated success managing technical teams

• 5 years previous experience working in a technical role

• Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields

• Program management experience

• Experience managing large control accounts with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and technical performance

• Proven success in creating and executing affordability initiatives

• Active TS/SCI Clearance

Salary Range: $240,100 - $360,100

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
