Northrop Grumman Staff Systems Engineer Algorithm Developer in Baltimore, Maryland
Northrop Grumman is looking for a Staff-level Systems Engineer to be responsible for the development and maintenance of bandwidth compression algorithms for EOIR sensor data, from mathematical/analytical derivation through testing and verification, using simulated and real sensor data. Included responsibilities are developing advanced techniques such as bandwidth compression using proprietary algorithms, image processing, Delta NIIRS quality assessment, and statistical analysis of system performance using sound systems engineering approaches.
The successful candidate will have analytic problem solving skills with the ability to proficiently use computer tools to code algorithms and process data. He/she will be self-motivated, have the ability to work independently or within a team to accomplish goals, and be capable of understanding a complex problem, developing an approach to solve it, and implementing that approach.
Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or other related STEM degree with 14 years relevant experience; or 12 years with Master of Science Degree; or 9 years of experience with PhD).
Active TS/SCI clearance with counter-intelligence polygraph
Design of bandwidth compression algorithms to compress sensor data
Prototype Algorithm Models using engineering programming languages (e.g. C/C++, MATLAB, MathCad, IDL)
Sensor Data Image Chain Processing Algorithms, Bandwidth Compression and Image Processing and Analysis
Collaboration with a hardware engineering to facilitate algorithm implementation in real-time FPGA code, and ability to interface with senior management
Present technical progress at technical review meetings, and documenting results via written reports
Strong oral and written communications and interpersonal skills
Remote sensing data, such as EO/IR, multi or hyper-spectral, modeling and simulation, and algorithm development, particularly as applied to complex sensor systems
Technical leadership experience with development and/or production program execution
High proficiency in technical problem solving to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring
Multi-disciplined knowledge in areas related to engineering including systems design, hardware, software and firmware design, integration and test
Familiarity with IMINT data collection and analysis
Familiarity with UNIX / Linux
