Northrop Grumman Space Systems sector is seeking a Quality Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals located in Baltimore, MD.
This position is part of the Payload & Ground Systems Quality Team supporting a Space Integration and Test Programs. This position ensures that all quality aspects are met and the end product meets all contractual requirements. Areas of specialization include design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation, process evaluation, reliability review, documentation signoff, testing support, and detailed inspection.
Roles and responsibilities:
Performing in-process inspections (including closeouts) and final inspections for product build documentation review as defined by contract requirements.
Perform detailed inspections on both the EEE and Mechanical components at the piece part level as well as the assembly and sub-assembly level
Uphold quality standards and workmanship practices in assigned work centers by learning/practicing process specifications and employing quality workmanship standards during everyday job functions
Generate non-conformance reports for discrepancies
Independent observers for all critical tasks (i.e. S/C lifts, movements, etc). The inspection/independent-observer responsibility cannot be delegated to anyone with a specific hands-on role in the task nor can the inspector perform any specific hands-on role.
Use standard visual and mechanical inspection techniques and tools
Interact with both internal and external customers on a variety of technical solutions
Read drawings, drawing notes, drawing call outs and other technical data
Monitor all nonconformance activity and provide support to I&T MA Manager/Lead for MRB/FRB process and also in ensuring proper actions are taken to determine root cause and implement appropriate corrective actions.
Function as the Safety overseer in absence of Safety Assurance and is responsible for meeting the requirements for witnessing all hazardous operation steps in the WI, MES Plan or Procedure.
Monitor all configuration changes and authorize Test Deviations and CTP forms and all other supporting documentation, when needed.
Ensure the Inspection Characteristics are reviewed in a timely manner as part of any in-process inspections and issue the acceptance tags for closure of all electronic and/or paper work instructions and/or procedures during the Final Inspection process, in accordance with the program quality plan.
Ensure quality records are archived and properly closed in the electronic database used for the specific program in accordance with the program quality plan.
Ensures that QME performance and quality conform to established contract and company requirements.
Provides proactive support to identify potential issues and concerns. Investigates problems and assists in the disposition and corrective actions for recurring discrepancies.
Use methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
This position is a pipeline opportunity to advance into the Space Mission Quality Excellence organization. Candidate must be capable of obtaining high level security clearances for future advancements in the Space QME organization.
This position may be required to work weekends, holidays, extended shifts and/or shift work
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related STEM field. 4 additional years of related experience can be substituted for the STEM degree.
2+ years of relevant technical experience
Must be able to read engineering documentation and inspect to drawings and parts lists, inspection plans, and supplemental instructions
Experience in Quality Assurance or relevant experience in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electro-mechanical field of work performing technical job function
Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated success working individually or as part of a team
Demonstrated ability to make informed decisions
Experience utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access,)
Ability to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Active/current Top Secret security clearance
Experience with SAP, MES, TipQA
Knowledge in how to read schematics or wire lists
Knowledge of Process Improvement Methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma)
Understanding of ISO9001 and/or AS9100 standards, audit experience
Familiar with MA and Space processes and systems
Familiar with integration and test processes and techniques related to integrating and testing space vehicles
