Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Manufacturing Engineering is seeking a Manager 2 of Additive Manufacturing Engineering to join the Operations Leadership Team . The Additive Manufacturing Engineering Manager will be responsible for executing the strategy of additive manufacturing for the Baltimore campus with additional strategic responsibilities within the overall Mission Systems sector.

The position requires leadership of a technical team of approximately 12 total engineers that are responsible for:

  • Managing and executing to the Additive Manufacturing development roadmap, including the maturation of low Manufacturing Readiness Level process capabilities into production-caliber processes

  • Process development along with repair and maintenance planning of new and established Additive Manufacturing equipment (including Metal Laser Powder Bed Fusion, Stereolithography, Fused Deposition Modeling, and Material Jetting)

  • Collaborating with design, RF, and systems engineering to develop producible additively manufactured designs and product development schedules that support program needs

  • Optimizing additive manufacturing processes to support future volume production efforts, including collaboration with upstream and downstream manufacturing processes

  • Providing additive manufacturing expertise to NGC suppliers as needed in support of program requirements

  • Updating and refining design guidelines for additive manufacturing supplied to design engineering

  • Supplying subject matter expertise on program adoption and implementation of additive manufacturing

Additional responsibilities and attributes of the Additive Manufacturing Engineering Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the strategy and development efforts for BWI Additive Manufacturing and ensuring that internal development efforts meet schedule and cost requirements

  • Leading the collaboration efforts between design, adjacent manufacturing engineering organizations, global supply chain, RF engineering, and operations systems engineering

  • Coordinating with the Mission Systems Additive Manufacturing Leadership team on development efforts that complement design and systems engineering initiatives, with a Baltimore campus manufacturing focus

  • Providing staffing support, mentoring, employee engagement facilitation, career development, and performance assessments for the approximately 12 engineers on the Additive Manufacturing team

  • Supplying Additive Manufacturing and/or Subtractive Manufacturing subject matter expertise, and leading the manufacturing and operations business process owners to align capability development with business objectives and strategy

  • Leading the management and communication of project objectives to ensure successful technical and financial execution; work with leadership to identify objectives and to acquire funding

  • Maintaining team affordability and advancing team effectiveness; ensuring team resources and skills are in place to meet both technical and financial objectives

  • Briefing Sector Operations, Business Division and Enterprise Leadership on strategy and projects, Additive Manufacturing objectives, and their alignment to business objectives

The Manager of Additive Manufacturing Engineering must perform in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high visibility operation; work well in a team environment; and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. They must have a passion for people, innovation, and excellence, along with the ability to effectively collaborate with multiple disciplines to solve complex issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field and 9 years of relevant professional experience (7 years with a Master's degree)

  • Prior experience with manufacturing engineering and new product development

  • Demonstrated intermediate experience with project management and communication including associated tools and methods

  • Must have fluency in MS Office software applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with metal and polymer additive manufacturing processes and product development

  • Experience with subtractive manufacturing processes and product development

  • Experience in a leadership position managing people and projects

  • Experience with Siemens PLM and Tool Suite - TeamCenter, NX

  • Experience with AM preparation software including EOSPrint, Stratasys Insight, and Materialise Magics

  • Six Sigma Black belt/Green belt certification from an accredited program

MANUMS

Salary Range: $141,100 - $211,700

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
