Northrop Grumman Manager Electronics Engineering 3 in Baltimore, Maryland

Northrop Grumman Space Sector is seeking an engineering department manager within the Remote Sensing Programs (RSP) business unit within Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division engineering organization to manage the Electrical Design & Digital Technology Hardware department.

The PGS RSP HW organization consists of 140+ members with rapid growth anticipated spanning various technical domains. Members of the team work with customers, program managers, systems engineering, software engineering, global supply chain, manufacturing, and within the Hardware discipline. The organization is divided up into three sections including Sub-System Leadership (SSL), Electrical Design & Digital Technology, and Mechanical Technology:

  • The Sub-System Leadership (SSL) department includes the Product Team Leadership (PTL) and Sub-System Engineering (SSE) leadership groups responsible for managing the sub-system products for a program. The PTL group develops, staffs, and supports hardware Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leads (IPTLs) responsible for sub-system program execution including cost, schedule, and scope onto and within programs. The SSL group develops, staffs, and supports sub-system engineers (architects, IPTLs, technical leads, analysists, and integration and test engineers) onto and within programs.

  • The Electrical Design and Digital Technology (EDDT) department includes the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), product leads, and product designers for our EO/IR, RF, digital, and power building blocks going into space. Team members have design expertise in Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs), backplanes, TR modules, IMAs, RF tile assembles, power and control distribution, and digital design and analysis solutions.

  • The Mechanical Technology (MT) department includes three main sub-teams the mechanical sub-system design and verification group, the mechanical design and analysis group, and the design services group. The Mechanical design and analysis team design activities including electronics packaging and analysis for EO/IR, RF, digital, power, and cryogenic applications, payload structures design, and thermal management and stabilization systems. The design services team activities include supporting Bill of Materials (BOM) development and release using ISE, provides design service for drawing development, release and drawing maintenance of emerging and production programs. This includes members of the Parts Management team that are responsible for the design and documentation services for components and assemblies for space and ground based applications.

The Electrical Design & Digital Technology (EDDT) department manager role encompasses both people and project/technical leadership with strong program experience, development and growth as core responsibilities.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead a functional group of 50+ engineers including performance management, career development, staffing, and strategic thrust implementation.

  • Provide project and technical oversight for activities performed by the department

  • Create, maintain and ensure application of processes and guidelines used in the department

  • Develop proposal inputs and review proposal content for both internal and external customers

  • Collaborate with peer managers to ensure consistency across multiple work groups

  • Support department initiatives, recruiting, hiring, technology roadmap creation, cross-campus/sector involvement, and internally funded projects

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 Years experience with Bachelors degree; 8 Years experience with Masters; 7 Years experience with PhD

  • Current, active Top Secret Security clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance level. US Citizenship is a prerequisite

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with and lead a diverse team.

  • Prior board design experience and familiarity with design documentation and processes for at least one of the following TR modules, IMAs, RF tile assembles, power and control distribution, or digital design

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with hardware configuration and impacts of changes to production hardware

  • Held leadership roles in either functional or programmatic management

  • Active TS/SCI Security Clearance
