Northrop Grumman Engineer Metrology/Principal Engineer Metrology (Level 2/3) in Baltimore, Maryland

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a talented Metrology Engineer to join our team in Linthicum, MD. This experienced professional will develop and evaluate metrology calibration systems that measure characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, luminous intensity, and derived units of physical or chemical measure. Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms. Develops calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems and accuracy and precision requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the Dimensional Lab's engineering requirements at BWI.

  • Develop procedures and processes that support compliance to standards.

  • Performance and oversight of audits of processes to assure effective implementation of procedures.

  • Identify and support process improvement activities.

  • Evaluation of out-of-tolerance situations to ensure appropriate steps are taken.

  • Coordinate vendor calibrations.

  • Perform special projects as required.

  • Perform ISO 17025 internal audits.



Basic Qualifications for a Level 2:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related STEM field and 2+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in a related STEM field and 0+ years of experience.

  • US Citizenship is required.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related STEM field and 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in a related STEM field and 3+ years of experience.

  • US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal calibration training, equivalent to U.S. Military PMEL school, or experience as an auditor with one or more accreditation bodies for ISO/IEC 17025.
